H2O1 Hosts Local Stakeholder Consultation to Advance RePL plastic waste reduction program in Indonesia

November 30, 2023 – H2O1, the project proponent and a leading company dedicated to sustainability initiatives, recently conducted a Local Stakeholder Consultation (LSC) in Indonesia on November 21st and 22nd, 2023. The LSC aimed to foster collaboration and engagement among key stakeholders in addressing plastic waste reduction through the RePL plastic waste reduction program, currently listed in Verra’s Plastic Program Registry.

The two-day event commenced at Inocycle’s (RePL Partner) recycling facility located in Tangerang, Indonesia. Participants included staff members and employees from the recycling industry, who play a pivotal role in managing plastic waste recycling procedures. The session provides insights into innovative approaches to plastic waste management and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving meaningful environmental impact.

Continuing the momentum, the second LSC session took place on November 22nd in Bekasi, Indonesia, bringing together local plastic waste collectors from the community. Through interactive discussions and presentations, participants were introduced to Verra’s plastic waste reduction program, emphasizing the significance of measurable and verified actions in tackling plastic pollution. Additionally, H2O1 introduced its own RePL plastic reduction program, showcasing its tailored approach to address the significant challenges faced by Indonesia’s plastic waste management sector.

“The RePL program represents a transformative step towards mitigating plastic pollution in Indonesia,” remarked Tony Cho, Vice President at H2O1. “By engaging with local stakeholders and implementing innovative solutions, we can collectively work towards a sustainable future.”

The LSC underscored the potential environmental benefits of the RePL program for Indonesia, including:

1. Reduction of plastic leakage into waterways and ecosystems, safeguarding biodiversity.
2. Promotion of circular economy principles by encouraging plastic recycling.
3. Reinvestment in the recycling industry for the enhancement of plastic recycling infrastructure.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, where the local participants had the opportunity to address queries and share insights on the implementation of plastic waste reduction strategies. The interactive dialogue further highlighted the commitment of stakeholders towards achieving tangible results in plastic waste management.

H2O1 remains committed to driving impactful change through collaborative partnerships and innovative solutions. The successful outcomes of the Local Stakeholder Consultation signify a step forward in the effort to combat plastic pollution and protect the environment in Indonesia.
